Does this look like a plate of pasta to you?
Maybe spaghetti, tortellini or goudatini? Well, it is not any of these.
It is a plate of Mr. Goudas Bamboo Strips.
For any of you who frequent Chinese or Oriental restaurants and hjave ordered some kind of Chinese food, e.g. Fried Rice with Vegetables, you obviously have tried and tasted the Mr. Goudas Bamboo Strips.
Most of the restaurants use this particular product.
Filipinos, Indonesians, Thailandese, and in general most south-east Asian countries are very familiar with this product.
Not only do they know it, but they also specialize in ways of preparation.
Of course, you do not have to be a super-chef to make this dish.
Simply open the can and drain the water off.
Slice a few cloves garlic.
Slice 1 large onion, a piece of ginger and 1 large carrot into strips.
Heat 4 or 5 tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil in a large frying pan or Wok and begin to sautee vegetables, starting with the carrot strips and onions, then the garlic and ginger.
Cook until tender and add a handful of Bamboo Strips.
Add 1 tbsp of Mr. Goudas Seasoning Sauce and a spoon or two of Soya Sauce.
Stir for approx 5 minutes.
Add 2 tbsp of Vinegar, Salt and Black Pepper to taste, 1 spoonful of Trinidad Style Hot Sauce and 1 tsp. of Brown Sugar to balance out the taste.
Sauteed Bamboo Strips is a complete vegetarian meal, without cholesterol, fat and all the trimmings.

The following information about Bamboo shoots was provided by Mickel Allen, a Jamaican native that cooks the Bamboo shoots in her own way.
Bamboo shoots or sprouts are indigenous to Asia.
They are the edible new culms of the bamboo plant that are typically used to make soups, broths and a whole host of other Asian cuisine.
Bamboo shoots vary and are derived from various species of Bamboo such as Bambusa vulgaris and Phyllostachys edulis.
They are sold in various processed shapes, and are available in fresh, dried, and or canned versions such as Mr. Goudas Bamboo Shouts and Mr. Goudas Bamboo Strip.
There is however several other brands on the market that I’m sure you’ll also enjoy.
Like most foods there are various ways of preparing Bamboo Shoots.
So I hope you’ll enjoy a Jamaican’s spin on an Asian essential and that its spicy flavor will excite you and ignite your taste buds- in a good way.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 large carrot
1 large yellow onion
2 cloves of garlic
4 tbsp. Mr. Goudas Extra Virgin Olive Oil
A tot of Mr. Goudas Jamaican Jerk Seasoning (or a brand of your choice).
Walkerswood, Grace, Dunns River.
¼ of a small green and yellow Bell Pepper finely sliced
***A quick fact: Jerk seasoning is used in a variety of ways in the Caribbean particularly in Jamaica - it’s used to add a “zing” to almost anything - Except Rum because then you’d be on Fire!!
Wash, scrape and finely slice the carrot, set aside, then dice and chop your onion and garlic cloves respectively.
In a Wok or "Jamaican Dutchy" allow 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to heat up and turn heat to medium level.
Pour in onions, carrot and garlic. Saute gently.
Add Bambooo shoots and 1 tablespoon brown sugar to add a little sweetness.
Fold ingredients together.
Now comes the Zing!... Add a small tot of Mr. Goudas jerk seasoning( or more if you can handle the heat) and blend ingredients once more.
***You may want to add the Jerk seasoning to a few tablespoons of water to dilute it and evenly distribute it over the contents of the Wok).
Now add your finely chopped bell peppers for a splash of colour and flavour.
Remove from stove and plate as illustrated above.
Enjoy with a bottle of Cold Red Stripe Beer--to cool you down...
